Teeth and Tooth Replacement

A missing tooth can certainly change the appearance of your smile. Whether it is the result of gum disease, injury, severe tooth decay, or a genetic condition. Regardless of the way a tooth is lost, a missing tooth can negatively impact the alignment of your teeth over time and cause various problems down the road if it isn’t replaced.

The loss of a single tooth can also harm your oral health and confidence. It can affect your speech, ability to chew your food, the integrity of your jawbone, and cause the slow shifting of your teeth into some of the empty spaces.

Luckily, there are several excellent options available to replace your missing tooth or teeth to help restore your beautiful smile.

At Gentle Dental, we believe our patients should understand all the options available when replacing any missing teeth, and so we offer Dental Implants, Dental Bridges and Dentures.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are the best long-term solution to missing teeth, as they become a fixed part of your mouth and allow you to go about your everyday life—people will never even know you have them.

Implants are about more than just restoring your smile. They look, fit, feel and function like your natural teeth. They help to decrease any unsightly gaps, reduce the impact on speech, and restore your mouths balance and chewing ability. More importantly, they help keep your mouth healthy for years to come.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge may be recommended when you are missing one or more teeth. The gaps left by missing teeth eventually cause the remaining teeth to rotate or shift into the empty spaces, resulting in a bad bite. The imbalance caused by missing teeth can also lead to gum disease and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

The bridge spans the space where the teeth are missing, and are permanently fixed to the adjacent natural tooth or dental implants surrounding the empty space.

There is a choice of materials available for dental bridges, and at Gentle Dental we can help you decide which to use, based on the location of the missing tooth (or teeth), its function, aesthetic considerations and cost.

Dentures

Dentures are removable false teeth designed to replace some or all teeth in a mouth whilst maintaining a comfortable feel and natural look. Not only are modern dentures durable and can have a long life span, but they are also an ideal cost-effective option where multiple teeth need replacing to restore the aesthetics and chewing ability in a mouth.

Full dentures are custom made for each person and are constructed from acrylic and other similar material ensuring strength and durability. In some instances, a  metal plate may be placed within the acrylic to provide additional strength.

They can be constructed with different shapes and positioning to replicate the patient's existing smile profile or create a completely different look.
